THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ABSOLUTIST (A Arries) was stubborn to load and lost 1 length. b) KEVIN'S PATH (M Yeni) and ELLIS ISLAND (*T Gumede) lost 1 length, respectively. c) LIGHTENING SPIRIT (S Moodley) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) LIGHTENING SPIRIT (S Moodley) was hanging in from the 400m. b) At the 250m, Jockey W Kennedy (STANTON STREET) briefly dropped his right side rein. Thereafter, Jockey W Kennedy dropped his crop at the 200m. c) STAR OVER CAPETOWN (*J Gates) over-raced in the early and middle stages. Thereafter, this gelding was hanging in, in the straight, proving difficult to assist. d) ABSOLUTIST (A Arries) shifted out away from the crop from the 200m. e) JAYS DANCER (L Hewitson) shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. f) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse ABSOLUTIST more than 12 times in the entire Race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Arries the Board considered the number of times (18) Jockey A Arries struck the horse ABSOLUTIST the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Arries used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R2000 was imposed. g) ABSOLUTIST (A Arries), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Eudey acting on behalf of Trainer M Miller advised (SC). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) JAYS DANCER raced with alumites in front, unshod behind (advised 12.10.20/6h54). b) SWEET WILLIAM raced without blinkers (advised 12.10.20/8h41).
