I AM A ROCK was slow into stride. CRIME VICTIM was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Howells was questioned regarding the improved performance of CRIME VICTIM, compared to this gelding's previous poor performance on the 20th October 2017. The only explanation he could offer, in his opinion, was that this gelding may have been unsuited to the polytrack. He advised the Board that, programme permitting, he would attempt to only race this gelding on turf in future. The future performance of this gelding will be monitored by the Stipendiary Board. Approaching the 600 metre mark, ATATURK switched out off the heels of GREAT RUMPUS. Thereafter ATATURK was hanging out on the bend, carried I AM A ROCK and IMPACT ZONE very wide into the straight. CRIME VICTIM was hanging in, in the latter stages. SCOTCH BRIAR was steadied and switched in off the heels of GREAT RUMPUS shortly before the finish. AFORAWAY and IMPACT ZONE were not persevered with in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. Vet: AFORAWAY - nothing obvious detected. Assistant Trainer Steyn was advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this colt on return to stables. IMPACT ZONE - nothing obvious detected.
