THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 800m, WALNUT (W Kennedy) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the inside of ROCK WITH ME (*M Zuma) which rolled out when awkwardly placed on the heels of GLACIER RUSH (*T Gumede) and thereafter rolled back in. b) At the 500m, ROCK WITH ME (*M Zuma) had to check when awkwardly placed on the heels of SPEEDY JACK (N Patel) which had raced to the front early and compounded from the 600m. Thereafter, at the 350m, ROCK WITH ME (*M Zuma) shifted out to continue its run and finished its race off strongly. c) At the 150m, Jockey A Marcus' (THOUSAND TUNES) crop was struck from his hand by Jockey K de Melo (PIQUILLIN) whose mount was hanging out from the 300m. d) At the 200m, CABINET SHUFFLE (S Moodley) shifted in to continue its run. e) In view of the performances of JUST DIXIT (D Dillon) (13.95 lengths) and SPEEDY JACK (N Patel) (55.05 lengths) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse CABINET SHUFFLE more than 12 times in the entire Race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Moodley the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse CABINET SHUFFLE the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Moodley used his crop and his record in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. g) PIQUILLIN (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
