The start of this Race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race and IDEAL SECRET having to be led to the start. ROY HAD ENOUGH (AUS) and DARKEST HOUR were slow into stride. IDEAL SECRET proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a handler. Trainer Azzie was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended. In view of the performance from PIETRO MASCAGNI, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. Trainer de Kock was requested to report back on the condition of PIETRO MASCAGNI on return to the stables. FLYING FREE was baulked for a clear run from the 300m to the 200m and thereafter had to switch in for a run. Approaching the 250m, PIETRO MASCAGNI had to steady when awkwardly placed on the heels of VACQUERO, which was carried in by BIG BEAR, which was awkwardly placed on the inside of MONKS HOOD, which was hanging in. During this incident BIG BEAR may have been struck across the face by the crop of Jockey Delpech. MONKS HOOD was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. IDEAL SECRET raced in the Colours of Mr M H Maingard: Royal Blue, White Sash, Scarlet Sleeves, White Cap. Vet: SEERITE - cut into left hind. ALSHIBAA (AUS) and PIETRO MASCAGNI - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. DARKEST HOUR - blowing heavily post race. Scratched: ALWAHSH NZ - Stewards permission. Assistant Trainer de Kock was of the opinion that after this colt's preparation it would not be suited to the distance of 1600m of the Investec Dingaans and requested permission for ALWAHSH NZ to be scratched.
