ROMAN EVENING and VALEGRO broke through the front gates injuring themselves and were withdrawn by the course Veterinary Surgeon. This caused a delay to the start of this Race. VALEGRO was restless, reared in stalls dislodging Apprentice Mjoka, resulting in AIRTAXI and ROMAN EVENING breaking open their front gates. VALEGRO and ROMAN EVENING injured themselves in the stalls and were scratched by the Course Veterinary Surgeon. Trainer Erasmus was advised to re-school ROMAN EVENING prior to its next engagement. AIRTAXI was restrained by the rider, returned to the start, examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded. Trainer van Vuuren was advised to re-school AIRTAXI prior to its next engagement. The Starting Stall Certificate for VALEGRO was withdrawn. LE TIGRE was slow into stride. MANX PARK jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. In view of the performances of FIDELIO and AIRTAXI, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. Trainer Verdonese was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of FIDELIO on return to stables. Jockey Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with NITRO CHARGE in running. LE TIGRE was carried in marginally by BRIGTNUMBERTEN, which was hanging in, in the concluding stages. In view of the Starter's report with regard to VALEGRO, this gelding was suspended for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable in the starting stalls with a companion on a raceday. VALEGRO may not be presented for repassing during this period. LE TIGRE, BRIGTNUMBERTEN and DAWNBREAKER were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: FIDELIO - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. MANX PARK - abnormal respiratory noise. AIRTAXI - not striding out right front. NITRO CHARGE - lame left front and speedy cut left front. Scratched: PISTOLERO - under suspension. ROMAN EVENING - injured in stalls. SNOW IN SEATTLE - insufficient recovery time. RONIN WARRIOR - swollen pastern joint. VALEGRO - injured in stalls.
