The start of this Race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race and the starting stalls having to be repositioned on the track. JIMMY SHOES and TEN-FOUR lost 1 length. KENTUCKY BLUE jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. Jockey van der Hoven reported that he felt something amiss with SEVENTH SON in running. Apprentice Schwarz reported that PANTSULA changed strides continually in running. In view of the performance from THAT'S LIFE, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. MARDI GRAS was hanging in from the 400m. When questioned regarding his ride on MARDI GRAS, Jockey Greyling explained to the Board that his instructions were to give this colt a chance in the early part of the race and thereafter build him up and allow him to finish the race off strongly. He was also advised not to overuse his crop as it was a first-timer. Jockey Greyling further reported that MARDI GRAS hung in and raced green. NATIONAL HOST was hanging in, in the concluding stages. Shortly before the finish line, PANTSULA, which rolled in, had to steady off the heels of COPPER JAY, which rolled out. As a consequence of this Apprentice Schwarz was unable to ride PANTSULA to the finish line. HE'S GREAT and COPPER JAY were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. JIMMY SHOES and TEN-FOUR raced equipped with alumite shoes in front, unshod behind. PANTSULA raced in the Colours of Mr G Baldeo, Adv R Padayachee SC & Team G Racing (Nom: Mr G H van Zyl): Signal Red, Buttercup Yellow Rings, Signal Red Sleeves and Cap, Buttercup Yellow Peak. Vet: SEVENTH SON and PANTSULA - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. LEONIDAS MY KING - abnormal respiratory noise. THAT'S LIFE - not striding out both front. Scratched: FEARLESS FRED - ineligible, winner 14 December 2017. WHAT A FIZZ - coughing.
