The start of this Race was delayed due to previous Race delays. CAPTAIN'S GIRL broke open the front gates as the start was effected resulting in the handler attending to CAPTAIN'S GIRL, restraining this filly momentarily. As a result, CAPTAIN'S GIRL lost one length. SWAKOPMUND was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer Ferrie was questioned with regard to the improved performance of SWAKOPMUND, was compared to this gelding's previous two performances. Mr Ferrie explained that this gelding raced too keenly in his previous two starts which resulted in SWAKOPMUND fading in the latter stages. Today, he tried a stronger bit in order to have this gelding more under control in the early stages. This, in his opinion, had accounted for the improvement shown. Mr Ferrie was advised to race this gelding equipped in a similar manner in future. RODNEY shifted in slightly near the 800 metre mark, resulting in FILIPPO being tightened. Thereafter SWAKOPMUND shifted in carrying RODNEY inwards, resulting in FILIPPO being steadied momentarily. FILIPPO was hanging in, in the straight, shifted in near the 300 metre mark, resulting in BONNIE DAWN being steadied momentarily. In view of the performance of KINGSMEAD, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Vet: KINGSMEAD - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: CATHEDRAL COUNTY - coughing.
