Shortly after the start, HOIST THE MAST took a number of awkward strides, which resulted in Jockey Dillon feeling something was amiss with the mare. He eased the mare out of the race and dismounted at about the 900m. Trainer Nel was requested to report back to the Stewards on the mare's condition on her return to the stables. At about the 300m, DESERT RHYTHM and LIVE LIFE brushed when DESERT RHYTHM rolled out and thereafter DESERT RHYTHM was awkwardly placed between LIVE LIVE and ANNELINE becoming unbalanced and having to steady shortly before the finish. At about the 200m, FELICITY FLYER was forced to check when ANGEL'S TRUMPET shifted out sharply to continue his run. Jockey van Niekerk, the rider of ANGEL'S TRUMPET, was charged with a contravention, in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to runners on his outside at about the 200m. Jockey van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days. At about the 50m, SHUFOOG (AUS) had to steady off the heels of ANGEL'S TRUMPET, which was carried out by JO'S BOND. MAGICAL WONDERLAND and ROSE IN BLOOM were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. The Colours of the Owners of MAGICAL WONDERLAND should read: Black and red hoops, red and yellow hooped sleeves, black and yellow hooped cap. Vet: HOIST THE MAST - examined after he was eased out of the race shortly after the start, and no obvious abnormalities were detected.
