The start of this Race was delayed due to the false start in Race 6, as well as the farrier having to refit the shoe on SPRING MAN at the start. SPRING MAN cast the right fore shoe on the way to the start which the farrier replaced. LIKE A PANTHER jumped awkwardly losing one length. DO IT AGAIN was slow into stride. WHITE RIVER was slow losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE SUN ALSO RISES was cramped for galloping room and forced to ease on the outside of SPRING MAN at about the 800m. FRESNAYE was carried outwards by LIKE A PANTHER at the 700m, which resulted in FRESNAYE racing wide on the latter part of the bend. In view of the performances from TAP O' NOTH and SILVER COIN, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the horses on their return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. Jockey Fourie was charged with a contravention in that, whilst riding the horse EYES WIDE OPEN, he saluted in a celebratory gesture prior to the finish line. Jockey Fourie signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. EYES WIDE OPEN and DO IT AGAIN were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. The Ownership of SILVER COIN raced fitted with ear muffs. Vet: SILVER COIN - made a poor recovery. TAP O' NOTH - was examined post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected.
