THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 400m, ELUSIVE TRADER (*X Jacobs) failed to secure a clear run between RUN FOX RUN (A Marcus) and SILVER OPERATOR (S Mbhele) and had to be shifted to the inside of SILVER OPERATOR (S Mbhele) to continue its run. When questioned as to why he had not made more effort to secure a clear run between RUN FOX RUN (A Marcus) and SILVER OPERATOR (S Mbhele), apprentice X Jacobs told the stewards that this gelding has a short run in and as such he had been instructed to keep this gelding covered in the early stages and to wait as long as possible before asking for a finishing effort. Apprentice Jacobs explanation was noted. b) Jockey G van Niekerk, the rider of FABIAN, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine c) GAINSFORD, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer was VH Marshall advised.
