STRONG 'N BRAVE was stubborn to load. Trainer Forbes advised to re-school this gelding. VIKING RED was slow into stride. FANTASY ART (AUS) was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. SOLDAT raced wide in the early stages. STRONG 'N BRAVE shifted in near the 1100 metre mark resulting in DALE HOUSE being eased off the heels of STRONG 'N BRAVE for a number of strides. As a result STRUMMER was eased and OGILVY was switched out and raced wide for a short distance. Apprentice Moodley signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention in that as the rider of STRONG 'N BRAVE he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to the horses DALE HOUSE, STRUMMER and OGILVY at approximately the 1100 metre mark. He was suspended for a period of 7 days with effect. Apprentice Ngwane reported BELUGA BERRY coughed post race. Jockey de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with SOLDAT post race. In view of the performance of OGILVY, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey Marcus signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he misused his crop by striking FANTASY ART (AUS) more than three times on consecutive strides in the latter stages. FANTASY ART (AUS) did not race with his tongue tied down. The Medical Officer reported that Jockey de Melo as suffering from acute clinical dehydration. Vet: SOLDAT and OGILVY - nothing obvious detected. BELUGA BERRY - coughing.
