CAPTAIN DISKO and WESTERN WU were slow away and lost 1 length each. PIONEER SPIRIT was stubborn loading, jumped outwards, was slow away and lost many lengths. After the running of race 4, a protest was lodged by the jockeys on the grounds of unsafe underfoot conditions. A panel was formed and a track inspection conducted. After the track inspection the jockeys had agreed to withdraw their protest provided that certain areas of the track be adequately repaired with divot filler. In view of the Starters report, PIONEER SPIRIT's starting stall certificate was withdrawn. Regarding this gelding's history in the starting stalls it was suspended for a period of 30 days and thereafter to be passed tractable to "jump on terms" prior to racing. Jockey Murray reported KING DJANGO did not act in the going. RIVER CAM was hanging out badly on the turn and proved difficult to assist. At approximately the 900 metre mark, WESTERN WU had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of THE CAT. In view of the performance of KONCEALED, the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. After the running of race 4 Jockey Zechner elected not to ride in the remainder of the races due to the track condition and he was replaced on his mounts. WESTERN WU and THE CAT were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: THE CAT - scratched inside left nostril. KONCEALED - nothing obvious detected. LOTUS ELAN - scratched tourniquet tongue tie. Scratched: LOTUS ELAN - injured tongue.
