THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LIVINGSTONE (L Mxothwa) cast his left front shoe on the way to the start which the farrier was unable to replace. After consulting with the trainer, the right front shoe was removed and LIVINGSTONE raced unshod in front, resulting in a delay. b) WOLF MAN (G van Niekerk) cast his left front shoe on the way to the start, which was replaced by the course farrier, causing a further delay. c) SNOW SUMMIT (C Zackey) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The saddle on LEGITIMISE slipped forward while Apprentice Jacobs was attempting to settle this gelding in the early stages. This was confirmed by a member of the Stipendiary Board b) Jockey K de Melo, the rider of LORD MARMITE, reported that this gelding did not stride out. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey R Fourie, the rider T'CHALLA (Betting 11/10 : Distance 8.30), which was hanging out and tired quickly in the latter stages, reported that he felt something amiss with this colt. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey K Sakayi, the rider of COMIN HOME, reported that this gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey Van Niekerk was questioned regarding his riding of WOLF MAN. In this regard, he told the stewards that this colt had raced very green and despite his urgings had lacked speed and had given ground to the field in the early stages. His explanation, which was confirmed after viewing the video evidence, was noted by the Stewards. f) FIREALLEY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. Trainer SJ Snaith has been requested to report back should he find anything untoward with this colt on his return to the stables.
