The start of this Race was delayed to allow sufficient time for the track maintenance staff to repair the track. BRAVO BRAVO, CONFESSIONAL & PINELANDS lost one length. IMMORTELLE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. HOLY LAND jumped in as start was effected, carrying MOONQUEST inwards. This resulted in CONFESSIONAL being squeezed out. BRONZED was hanging out, in the latter stages. Approaching the 200 metre mark, HOLY LAND racing green, shifted in slightly from the crop. This resulted in CONFESSIONAL having to be eased off the heels of HOLY LAND. Jockey Marcus, the rider of STONE TIGER, reported this colt faltered and did not act in the prevailing heavy underfoot track conditions. Apprentice Hewitson, the rider of ROMANESCA, reported this colt faltered at approximately the 250 metre mark. I FLY raced with a tongue tie. Scratched: FLYING GEORGE - shin sore. Following the running of the first Race, the riders expressed concerns regarding inconsistencies in the heavy underfoot track condition, and lodged a protest in terms of the Rules. The Panel was formed and having heard all the evidence presented by the Trainer and Jockey Representatives and following a track inspection, it was decided in the interest of safety to abandon the remainder of the race meeting.
