EARL OF WARWICK cast the left fore shoe, which the farrier replaced. LOUIS THE GREAT jumped awkwardly losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. Jockey Khathi reported that RED SHIFT did not stride out freely in running, and as a result he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. Stable Employee E Lerena, acting on behalf of Trainer Nel, was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the gelding's condition on its return to the stables. Jockey van Niekerk reported that he felt something amiss with LOUIS THE GREAT in running, and as a result he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. ARABIAN AIR was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: EARL OF WARWICK - declared fit to race after left fore shoe was replaced by the farrier at the start. RED SHIFT and LOUIS THE GREAT - examined post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected.
