THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) RIVARINE (D L Habib), GALLIC PRINCESS (G Lerena) and OLD MAN TYME (C Habib) were slow into stride.
b) GIMME A WAVE (M Yeni) and GREAT SHAKA (A Arries) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Shortly after the start, GALLIC PRINCESS (G Lerena) and WINTER STORM (T Godden) were bumped in by GREAT SHAKA (A Arries) which jumped in.
b) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with GIMME A WAVE in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) WONDERWALL (*L J Ferrarsi) hung in in the concluding stages.
d) When questioned regarding his riding of CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT, Jockey G van Niekerk told the Stewards that he had ridden this gelding with the hands in a prominent position and that he had elected to make his run on the inside of SINGFORAFA (C Zackey) at the 400m as he had anticipated that this filly would commence to roll outwards at that point.
When questioned regarding the change of vigour in his riding style in the closing stages, Jockey van Niekerk told the Stewards that he had confused the finishing post of the inside track in relation to his position at the 100m in this race on the standside track, and that this was the reason why he had paused with his riding at this stage of the race.
Mr van Niekerk was advised that this explanation would be reported and even though the Stewards were satisfied that this had not cost him a place, he is required to be more aware of his surroundings and that his status as a senior rider requires him to be more professional in this regard.
e) BOLD RANSOM (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P A Peter advised (AH).
f) ORAVAR (*J Gates), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (GF).
JOCKEY CHANGES:
None.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) WINTER STORM raced without pacifiers and equipped with blinkers (declared 31 October 2020 at 08H15).
b) CALVARY raced unshod (declared 27 October 2020 at 14H13).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) MOMBELA abnormal respiratory noise.
b) GIMME A WAVE examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
