THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BARTHOLOMEUS (S Brown) was slow into stride. b) CITY DEEP (D De Gouveia) was slow losing one length, THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 300m, CAPTAIN CUPID (S Khumalo), which had come to end of run, had to steady momentarily to avoid running onto the heels BARTHOLOMEUS (S Brown) which rolled in. b) RED BISHOP (M Yeni) over raced in the early stages. Thereafter Jockey M Yeni felt something amiss with RED BISHOP in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 150m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer S Moffatt was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of RED BISHOP on return to stables. c) Jockey S Khumalo reported CAPTAIN CUPID returned with a mouth injury. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. d) Apprentice J R Syster (WYLIE THE GREAT) accidentally dropped his crop at approximately the 50m. e) BARTHOLOMEUS (S Brown), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee H van der Westhuizen (Jnr), acting on behalf of Trainer S Botha, was advised (DR). When questioned regarding this gelding's improved performance, Trainer S Botha could offer no suitable explanation. Trainer S Botha was advised that this gelding's future races will be monitored. JOCKEY CHANGES: None.
