The start of this race was delayed due to the protest lodged by the jockeys after the running of the previous race. ROAD TO INDY fly jumped leaving the stalls and thereafter was slow into stride. After the running of the 4th race, the riders raised concerns regarding the underfoot conditions with specific reference to the consistency of the track, the kickback and the pull up area. As a result of these concerns, a protest was lodged by the jockeys. The Stipendiary Board acting in terms of Rule 5.2.3 duly constituted a wet weather panel and after conducting a track inspection, the majority of the panel was of the view that the track conditions were suitable to continue racing. Any riders unwilling to ride were afforded the opportunity to be replaced on their mounts. Jockeys Murray, rider of INVITING LILY and Cheyne, rider of OLYMPIC POWER reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. GIMME THE STARS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: INVITING LILY - not striding out in front. OLYMPIC POWER - not striding out left fore.
