GLOBAL VILLAGE was slow into stride. CALIENTE and SAFFINATOR both lost 1 length. PRINCE PONTI (AUS) lost 2 lengths. CHECKPOINT CHARLIE selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer S Hill was questioned regarding the improved performance of CHECKPOINT CHARLIE as compared to this gelding's previous run. Mr Hill explained that after over-racing without cover in the early stages, as reported, this gelding had compounded in the closing stages. Further it was noted that CLIFTON CRUSHER won the race by 7 lengths. Mr Hill's explanation has been noted and the future performances of CHECKPOINT CHARLIE will be monitored. CALIENTE jumped out as the start was effected carrying SAFFINATOR and PRINCE PONTI (AUS) outwards. PAVAROTTI PASSION raced green. KING OF SAMASH over-raced in the early stages. VAR'S BOY raced green on the bend. Passing the 300 metre mark Apprentice Moodley, the rider of Q BEHIND ME, had his crop accidentally struck from his hand by Jockey de Melo, the rider of VAR'S BOY. In view of the performance of POT LUCK, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Vet: POT LUCK - nothing obvious detected. IKNOW and CALIENTE - coughing. Scratched: WOLF KILLER - virus.
