THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SABINA'S PRODIGY (R Fourie) jumped with his head up and was slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) LEGITIMATE (K de Melo), which was hanging out, rolled out and brushed HIGHWAY STAR (K Sakayi) on three occasions leaving the 400m. Thereafter, approaching the 150m, LEGITIMATE (K de Melo) which continued to hang out, was held up when attempting a run between WARRIOR BLING (G van Niekerk) and CAPTAINS WORLD (S Mbhele), and thereafter brushed the hindquarters of WARRIOR BLING (G van Niekerk) turning WARRIOR BLING (G van Niekerk) inwards. b) Apprentice X Jacobs was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck BEY SUYAY more than 12 times in the entire race. Apprentice Jacobs signed an admission of guilt and was fined R 750,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Apprentice Jacob's recent record with regards to this Rule and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. c) The saddle on ORANGE BITTERS (S Moodley) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by a stipendiary steward. In view of the performance of ORANGE BITTERS (S Moodley), the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) WARRIOR BLING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised.
