The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race and CHAPEL JIVE, which pulled its right front shoe en route to the start, being attended to by the Course Farrier. CRIMSON MAGIC stumbled shortly after the start. Jockey Mansour reported that HIGHWAY EIGHTYFIVE took no interest in running. At approximately the 1000m TIMEOFTHEVIKINGS took a number of awkward strides, making contact with the running rail. As a consequence of this CHAPEL JIVE, PRIVATE RULER, BLAZING WINTER and HIGHWAY EIGHTYFIVE took evasive action. Jockey Khumalo, the rider of FRONT RANK, accidentally dropped his crop at approximately the 300m. SOVEREIGN REIGN was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: CHAPEL JIVE - abnormal respiratory noise. HIGHWAY EIGHTYFIVE - examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. Scratched: QUATTRO - insufficient recovery time
