ETERNAL ICE lost one length. DOM SEGUIDOR and REHOBOTH BEACH were slow into stride. HIGH ALTAR was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. In view of the performances of ASIAN STAR and REHOBOTH BEACH the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. DON PIERRO (AUS) over-raced in the early stages. SECRET SUCCESS shifted out away from the crop, carrying HIGH ALTAR outwards near the 200 metre mark. Jockey de Melo the rider of ASIAN STAR appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to his riding in the final straight. He explained that in the early part of the straight, he was awkwardly placed between PIROGUE and TWO STROKE and was only able to obtain a clear run near the 200 metre mark. Thereafter when he asked ASIAN STAR for an effort, this gelding did not quicken in the closing stages. The Board noted his explanation and the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine ASIAN STAR. Vet: ASIAN STAR - nothing obvious detected. REHOBOTH BEACH - nothing obvious detected.
