THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 250m, EVA EILEEN (K de Melo) failed to secure a run between SECRET DEPTHS (*X Jacobs) and VOMANDLA (G van Niekerk) and was directed to the inside of SPRINGISINTHEAIR (*J Solomons) to obtain clear running. b) Jockey G van Niekerk was unable to ride VOMANDLA to the finish when awkwardly placed on the outside of SPRINGISINTHEAIR (*J Solomons), which was hanging out and rolled out slightly in the concluding stages. c) Jockey A Marcus, the rider of HEAVEN'S EMBRACE, reported that he felt something amiss with this mare and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. He further reported this mare was blowing heavily at the pull up. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) Trainer B Crawford was charged with a contravention of Rule 8.3.1 in that he failed to have the registered colours of the horse MISS SMARTY PANTS. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, signed an Admission of Guilt and Trainer B Crawford was fined R 250,00. e) EVA EILEEN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PP Kruyer was advised.
