THE STARTER REPORTED: a) IMPERIAL BALLET (R Khathi) cast her left front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced by the course farrier. b) TIME OFF (S Veale) was restless in the stalls. c) GOLIGHTLY (L Mxothwa) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The start of this race was delayed due to the delays in the previous race. b) KAROO WINTER (G van Niekerk) over raced in the early stages. c) VAL GARDENA (C Zackey) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. d) Leaving the 300m PETRONELLA (R Fourie) was momentarily inconvenienced when close to the heels of GALLIC GIRL (*J Solomons) which was hanging out and rolled out slightly. Thereafter PETRONELLA (R Fourie) was shifted to the outside of TIME OFF (S Veale) to continue its run. e) Jockey G Cheyne was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck CHILE JAM more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Cheyne signed an admission of guilt and was fined R 750,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey Cheyne's recent good record with regards to this Rule and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. f) WILD CREATURE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
