THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MARINA (A Domeyer) jumped inwards and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 550m, FYNBOS (G Cheyne) was carried out by MARINA (A Domeyer) which raced green on the bend and rolled out. b) Jockey K de Melo, the rider of RUBY RHYTHM, reported that this filly did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey A Domeyer was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck MARINA more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Domeyer signed an admission of guilt and was fined R 1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey Domeyer's recent record with regards to this Rule and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. 'd) MARINA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (SC) e) TWICETHEQUALITY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
