The start of this Race was delayed due to the farrier having to attend to the left hind shoe on JACKSON WELLS (A Arries) in the parade ring. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) MARY O (S Moodley) raced wide around the first turn, around the field and to the front at the 1200m. Thereafter, this filly was hanging in between the 400m and the 300m. b) In the concluding stages, PURPLE PERSUASION (*J Jacobs) was brushed in by JACKSON WELLS (A Arries) which shifted in marginally away from the crop. c) Shortly before the finish, JACK'S BIRD (L Hewitson) and MARY O (S Moodley) came together and brushed. d) Jockey A Marcus (ELECTRIC SURGE) (11.90 lengths) and Jockey W Kennedy (DANCING FEATHER) (6.10 lengths) reported that their respective mounts took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey K de Melo reported that RILLE (4.50 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse JACKSON WELLS more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Arries the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey A Arries struck the horse JACKSON WELLS, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Arries used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. g) JACK'S BIRD (L Hewitson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M L Roberts advised (ML). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) ELECTRIC SURGE : Nothing obvious detected. b) DANCING FEATHER : Not striding out right hind. c) RILLE : Nothing obvious detected. d) JACKSON WELLS : Returned post race having cast the right fore shoe. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
