THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Jockey A Marcus reported that CATALYST (4.80 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) In view of the performance of ELUSIVE SUZY (*J Syster) (19.05 lengths, 44/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) In view of the performance of SILVER BEAUTY (G Wright) (8.45 lengths, 57/20 in the betting), Assistant Trainer B Forster acting on behalf of Trainer W A Nel was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this mare on return to stables. d) Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse CATALYST more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Marcus the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey A Marcus struck the horse CATALYST, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Marcus used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule.
