TAMMANY HALL and ARTEMISIA were slow into stride. When questioned regarding his ride on ARTEMISIA, Jockey Strydom explained to the Board that this mare was having her fifth run in seven weeks and had a significant increase in Merit Rating from 68 to 81 in her last two runs. In his opinion, this mare was not suited to the firm going (penetrometer reading 21). He said that ARTEMISIA never travelled, was always sitting at the back of the field and was under a ride to stay in touch. He felt something amiss with this mare in running and did not persevere with his ride from the 150m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this ARTEMISIA. Jockey Simons reported that he felt something amiss with LADY VAL (AUS) in running. CHITENGO and SHELLY were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Jockey Khumalo will be questioned regarding his ride on CHITENGO on 20 October 2018. SHELLY shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. Vet: ARTEMISIA and LADY VAL (AUS) - examined post-race, nothing obvious detected.
