THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MAISON MERCI (A Marcus) reared in the stalls, was taken out, examined by the course veterinary surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded, causing a delay b) WEST COAST WONDER (G Behr), ORLOV (C Zackey) and FOUND THE DREAM (O Noach) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) T'??HALLA (R Fourie) was hanging out throughout. b) WEST COAST WONDER (G Behr) proved difficult to settle while attempting to obtain cover in the early stages. c) In view of the report from the starter regarding MAISON MERCI (A Marcus), this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 26/11/2020 to 02/12/2020 inclusive). MAISON MERCI may not be presented for re-passing during this period. d) Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck IZAPHA more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey van Niekerk signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey van Niekerk's recent record with regards to contraventions of this Rule and the number of strikes over the permissible level. e) Trainer AE Sands was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.6.3, in that he failed to give written notice within 2 business days of JEM ROCK entering his training establishment that it was a gelding. Trainer AE Sands signed an admission of guilt and was given the penalty of a warning. f) IZAPHA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised.
