AFRICA'S GOLD was slow losing one length. Jockey Lerena reported that ORPHEUS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. Jockey Zechner reported that he felt something amiss with HOKANUI in running. Approaching the 400m, ORPHEUS was brushed inwards by GIFT FOR THE GAP which rolled in. Jockey Juglall appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol film of the race and advised to make more of an effort to keep his mounts on a straight course during races. Shortly before the finish line, AFRICA'S GOLD shifted out away from the crop. Jockey Juglall struck the horse GIFT FOR THE GAP more than three times on consecutive strides. GIFT FOR THE GAP was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: ORPHEUS - abnormal respiratory noise. HOKANUI - fatigued. Scratched: JUST A JET - abnormal temperature.
