VAR EXPRESS cast the left fore shoe on the way to the start which the farrier repaired causing a delay. The tongue tie on SUPER DINO (AUS) had to be refitted causing a further delay. INSIDE POLITICS and AT THE OFFICE were slow into stride. Jockey de Melo, rider of GIMME PEACE reported that this gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. In view of the performance from VAR EXPRESS, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the colt on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. At the 350m VAR EXPRESS which was hanging in and proved difficult to assist, shifted in sharply, which resulted in INSIDE POLITICS having to steady and MISHEGOSS was carried in for a number of strides. DUBULA was hanging in from the 300m. The Stewards reviewed the patrol films regarding AMAZING SATCHMO's previous run on 22 December 2018 and were satisfied that the films confirmed that the colt had been cramped for galloping room for a number of strides on the inside running rail at the 250m. AMAZING SATCHMO was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. SUPER DINO (AUS) raced fitted with a tongue tie. Vet: GIMME PEACE - examined post-race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. NATUREALIST -returned making an abnormal respiratory noise. VAR EXPRESS - lost the left hind shoe in running and was lame on the left hind. Scratched: NORTHERN SPY - sold without engagement.
