The start of this race was delayed due to the Veterinary Surgeon having to attend to VIDA ES BELLA on course following the running of race 7 which delayed the runners for race 8 entering the parade ring. Thereafter DONNY G proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a Handler. PURPLE DIAMOND was slow into stride. PILLAROFTHEEARTH jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. DONNY proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer Maroun was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended. GREAT SHAKA was hanging out from the 300m. TANDAVA (ZIM) and DONNY came together and brushed on two occasions between the 250m and the 150m. Jockey Danielson reported that PILLAROFTHEEARTH did not stride out freely in running and did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. Shortly before the finish line, WRECKING BALL which was hanging in, had to steady to avoid running onto the heels of ORAVAR. GREAT SHAKA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
