Following the running of race 4, and in consultation with the Jockeys, the going was changed from good to good to soft. The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race. ARTE and SAMURAI WARRIOR were slow into stride. Jockey Maujean failed to ride the horse COME THE DAY out to the end of the race, thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining 5th place. NOBLE SECRET and ARTE was hanging out from the 400m. ARTE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Apprentice Ferraris replaced Jockey Kennedy on AMERICAN INDIAN. Due to the significant delay caused by the electrical storm, permission was granted for Jockey W Kennedy to be replaced on the remainder of his mounts, as he had a flight to catch to Durban. SAMURAI WARRIOR raced without cheek pieces. Vet: CASH TIME - nasal discharge. Scratched: CAPTAIN SPLENDID - retired.
