THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 1600m, MARCHINGONTOGETHER (W Kennedy) elected to race around the field and to the outside of the leader at the 1200m. Thereafter, MARCHINGONTOGETHER (W Kennedy) was hanging in between the 450m and 300m and at the 200m, shifted out away from the crop. b) Apprentice L Ferraris reported that AMERICAN INDIAN (12.70 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Trainer C Hewitson appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the change of riding tactics on MANGROVE (L Hewitson). In this regard, he explained that, he had removed the blinkers on MANGROVE in order to afford this gelding the best opportunity to stay the distance and that whilst he did not necessarily intend to lead today on MANGROVE, he had expected this gelding to race in a more forward position than it raced in the running. However, he explained that after MANGROVE (L Hewitson) had jumped marginally behind other runners, Jockey L Hewitson had in his opinion correctly, settled this gelding in a rearward position in the run. The Board noted the explanation of Mr C Hewitson which was corroborated by the patrol films and Jockey L Hewitson who appeared before and was questioned, by the Board. d) ANSE LAZIO (AUS) (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee C Olivier acting on behalf of Trainer W A Nel advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) BLACKBALL raced with a cornell collar. b) MANGROVE raced without blinkers (advised 29.11.20/08h46). c) ANSE LAZIO (AUS) Jockey K de Melo weighed out at 53.1kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight of 52.5kg.
