PITCH PINE and SAIL DE LAGO were slow into stride. RUMBLEINTHEJUNGLE lost one length. TRUST IN GOLD was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Rivalland was questioned regarding the improved performance of TRUST IN GOLD the winner, compared to this gelding's previous performance. Mr Rivalland could offer no explanation other than the rider had reported that TRUST IN GOLD took no interest in his previous race. This was confirmed in the Stipendiary Stewards' report. Mr Rivalland's explanation was noted and the future performances of this gelding will be monitored. PITCH PINE was hanging out in the early and middle stages and raced wide throughout. BLACK DEVON raced wide in the early stages. TRUST IN GOLD ducked out near the 1000 metre mark carrying CATCH THE DEVIL outwards. CATCH THE DEVIL was hanging in over the final 400 metres. In view of the performances of PITCH PINE and TOMMY THE BUILDER the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. BLACK DEVON raced with alumites in front, unshod behind. TOMMY THE BUILDER raced without a tongue tie. Vet: PITCH PINE - blowing. TOMMY THE BUILDER - nothing obvious detected.
