No sectional timing devices were used as the operator that attends to these devices was involved in an accident. The start of this race was delayed due to the late scratching of HIGHWAY EXPRESS. HENRY JAMES jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. TEQUILA MAN and CROSS FROM GOA were slow into stride. HIGHWAY EXPRESS refused to load. The Starting Stall Certificate for this gelding was withdrawn. In view of the Starter's report with regard to HIGHWAY EXPRESS, this gelding was suspended for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable loading into the starting stalls. Suspension dates: 3 March 2019 to 9 March 2019. HIGHWAY EXPRESS may not be presented for repassing during this period. Jockey De Gouveia reported that MARULA hit its head in the stalls. CAPTAIN FLYNT was hanging in in the concluding stages. In view of the performance of CAPTAIN FLYNT, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. When afforded the opportunity to explain the rather disappointing performance of CAPTAIN FLYNT, Jockey Danielson told the Stewards that this colt had matured since he last rode him and that he may need to be gelded as in his opinion he has become heavy and was never competitive in the race. He added that it was his opinion that this colt will be better suited to the longer distances in future as it is a long striding horse. His explanation was noted. BELTON ROAD (AUS) was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. HIGHWAY EXPRESS raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind. Vet: MARULA - head injury in stalls. CAPTAIN FLYNT examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. Scratched: HIGHWAY EXPRESS - refused to load.
