Following the running of Race 6 the riders expressed concerns regarding an area just past the winning post. An overnight burst water pipe had affected this area which necessitated intensive rehabilitative work prior to the race meeting. This area was inspected by trainers, riders and officials prior to the running of the. Barrier Trial and was declared fit and safe for racing. The riders' concerns were following heavy rainfall that this area was inconsistent in relation to the surrounding area. A Panel was formed and having heard evidence from representatives of the trainers and jockeys, and following the track being harrowed on two occasions were of the unanimous view that it was safe to continue racing. ELEGANT ROYAL was restless in the stalls. Thereafter was slow into stride. FOREHAND was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Approaching the 1400 metre mark SALUBRIOUS shifted in to a point on the immediate outside of GIMME A BRAKE NATE resulting in GIMME A BRAKE NATE being eased. Jockey Ngwane appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to take more care when shifting ground in races in future. KILMOKEA began to over-race and shifted out approaching the 1100 metre mark carrying SALUBRIOUS outwards. Jockey de Gouveia the rider of ZULU DAWN reported that he felt something amiss with this filly in running. In view of the performance of GIMME A BRAKE NATE the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. ELEGANT ROYAL, FACE OF AN ANGEL and GIMME A BRAKE NATE raced fitted with ear-muffs. Vet: ZULU DAWN - nothing obvious detected. FACE OF AN ANGEL - speedy cut left hind. GIMME A BRAKE NATE - not striding out right fore.
