The start of this race was delayed due to bold call breaking through the front of the starting stalls, having to be restrained by the rider, examined by the veterinary surgeon, passed fit to race and re-loaded. BRIGADOON ELY was nervous in the stalls. CASEY JAY was slow away and lost 1 length. GREAT CRUSADE was slow into stride. GENEROUS GUY was nervous in the stalls and slow into stride. REYMUNDO was nervous in the stalls and unruly. BOLD CALL was nervous in the stalls, broke through the front of the gates and had to be re-loaded. Thereafter, this gelding was slow away and lost 3 lengths. Trainer Smith was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement. In deciding what action to take against this horse, the Starter considered that this gelding had no significant history regarding his behavior at the starting stalls. In view of the performance of GENEROUS GUY, the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. RUBY TWO SHOES refused to parade and had to be led to the start. Trainer Greeff was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future, she may be suspended. BRIGADOON ELY shifted both ways away from the crop from the 200m. Jockey Fourie appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his ride of BRIGADOON ELY. The Board drew Mr Fourie's attention, in particular, to the concluding stages of the race where BRIGADOON ELY shifted in away from the crop shortly before the finish and questioned why he had not taken all reasonable measures to keep his mount from shifting ground. Jockey Fourie explained that in his opinion whilst his horse was shifting both ways away from the crop, this gelding was producing his best finishing effort whilst shifting ground in the race. Consequently, he elected to use his crop for a second time shortly before the finish in order to afford his horse the best possible opportunity to continue its momentum whilst shifting ground and thus run past RUBY TWO SHOES. The Board noted Jockey Fourie's explanation. However, he was advised to take more care when shifting ground in future. RUBY TWO SHOES was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. BOLD CALL raced equipped with a tongue tie. RUBY TWO SHOES raced equipped with ear muffs. Vet: ENGADINE - scratched at the start, not striding out in front. GENEROUS GUY - not striding out in front. Scratched: ENGADINE - not striding out in front.
