KINGS CUP, AFRICA'S GOLD and FACT lost one length. MIGHTY AND MAGIC lost two lengths. RYDER raced to the front clear of the field and compounded from the 300m. At approximately the 1300m, it was noted that a bracket on the inside running rail had become detached. As a consequence of this, the running rail had sprung loose and was protruding significantly to the inside of the course. The Track Manager was summoned to the Boardroom to offer an explanation as to how this could have transpired. He could offer no explanation other than that there is someone who checks the rail between races. This incident was reported to Phumelela Management for further investigation. AFRICA'S GOLD was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Scratched: HIGHLANDER - phleg leg left front - under veterinary treatment.
