THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VALYRIAN KING (S Khumalo) stumbled leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey S Khumalo appeared before the board and was questioned regarding his ride on VALYRIAN KING in the concluding stages. He explained to the Board that this gelding had stumbled badly shortly after the start, thereafter had travelled well up until the 100m where Jockey S Khumalo felt this gelding changed stride continuously in the concluding stages. As a consequence of this, Jockey S Khumalo elected not to persevere with his ride in the concluding stages as he felt something amiss with VALYRIAN KING. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. The board have adjourned to give further consideration to this ride. Trainer P F Matchett was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of VALYRIAN KING on return to stables. b) SWEET SENSATION (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SOUTH EAST blowing post race. b) VALYRIAN KING examined post race, nothing obvious detected. c) SWEET SENSATION brush wound right front and overreach left front.
