THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FARLAND (G Wright), BORN TO PERFORM (A Marcus) and MOUNT ANDERSON (K de Melo) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Jockey A Marcus reported that BORN TO PERFORM (7.80 lengths) choked up in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) Jockey K de Melo reported that MOUNT ANDERSON (3.50 lengths) took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse NEWS STREAM more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Arries the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey A Arries struck the horse NEWS STREAM, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Arries used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1500 was imposed. d) Trainer D Campbell appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the improved performance of FARLAND (G Wright), compared to this gelding's previous performance on the 28 October 2020 over 1600m. Mr Campbell explained that in FARLAND'S previous run, the rider was unable to obtain cover and that this gelding had over-raced, as reported, and had compounded in the concluding stages. Today, Jockey G Wright was able to obtain cover at the start, resulting in FARLAND settling behind runners, and as a result this gelding ran on in the concluding stages. Mr Campbell's explanation was noted and the future performances of FARLAND will be monitored. e) FARLAND (G Wright), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D I Campbell advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) GURU'S PRIDE was ridden by Jockey S Moodley (advised 06.12.20/08h45). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil.
