JENNY DENNY was nervous in the stalls and rushed the front gate. JELLICOE AVENUE was slow away and lost 2 lengths. WINTER ORCHID was slow away and lost 1 length. At the 200m COZY CHESTNUT which was hanging in from the 300m, was carried out by JENNY DENNY which took an awkward stride whilst racing awkwardly in the straight. Thereafter, at the 100m, JENNY DENNY and COZY CHESTNUT came together and bumped. A race review was called into this incident which was followed by an objection being lodged by the Trainer of the second placed horse, Smith, against the winner COZY CHESTNUT, on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After hearing the evidence of all parties concerned, the Board was not satisfied that but for the above incident, JENNY DENNY would have beaten COZY CHESTNUT. In arriving at this decision, the Board took into consideration the fact that JENNY DENNY was racing awkwardly in the straight and had shifted both ways in the running. Additionally, at the point of the interference, there was movement from each of the above horses, COZY CHESTNUT had run on from behind JENNY DENNY and from the side on angle, appeared to be holding JENNY DENNY to the line. Accordingly, the Board over-ruled Trainer Smith's objection and allowed the judge's result to stand. Jockey Lerena appeared before the Board and was afforded the opportunity to explain the poor performance of JELLICOE AVENUE. In this regard, he explained to the Board that, the filly was an inexperienced horse that was slow out of the starting stalls, raced greenly in the running and took no interest throughout the race. In view of this report, the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report in respect of this horse, Trainer Greeff was requested to report back on the condition of this filly on her return to the stables. In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning MARIE ANTOINETTE this filly was suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horse racing Authority. COZY CHESTNUT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. MARIE ANTONIETTE raced equipped with ear muffs. Vet: JENNY DENNY - blood in mouth. MARIE ANTOINETTE - bilateral epistaxis, 60 days suspension. JELLICOE AVENUE - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: CLEVER CLOGGS - abscess near fore.
