ARANJUEZ was stubborn loading. WHEEL OF TIME was slow away and lost 1 length. ARANJUEZ over raced in the early stages. In the concluding stages DESERT CHIEF, which was hanging out from the 400m, shifted out away from the crop. Jockey Mxothwa appeared before the Board and notwithstanding his short head victory, was questioned regarding his decision to draw and use his crop in his right hand despite DESERT CHIEF hanging out. In this regard, Jockey Mxothwa explained that, he did not want to risk his horse losing momentum by him changing his rhythm whilst switching his crop to his left hand. Accordingly, he elected to allow his horse to shift out and maintain his momentum for long enough to just keep the rallying back, ARABIAN DYNASTY at bay. The Board noted and accepted the explanation of Jockey Mxothwa. DESERT CHIEF was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: WOOD FOR THE TREES - not striding out (slight) in front.
