Shortly before the finish line ROCKIN RUSSIAN was bumped outwards by CAPTAIN OF TORTUGA, which shifted out. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey Hewitson, the rider of ROCKIN RUSSIAN, placed second, against the winner, CAPTAIN OF TORTUGA on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the concluding stages. The Board, after giving regard to the evidence presented by all the parties and reviewing the patrol film of the incident, was of the opinion that this contact occurred six strides before the finish line, that the margin between CAPTAIN OF TORTUGA and ROCKIN RUSSIAN was half a length and that CAPTAIN OF TORTUGA always appeared to have the measure of ROCKIN RUSSIAN and therefore overruled the objection and allowed the judge's result to stand. Jockey Hewitson's objection deposit fee was refunded. Jockey Strydom as the rider of CAPTAIN OF TORTUGA, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to ROCKIN RUSSIAN when he shifted out in the concluding stages. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. CAPTAIN OF TORTUGA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Scratched: LAKE KINNERET - ineligible (three-time winner). SINGASWEWIN - insufficient recovery time.
