At the 1500m, CHARIOT OF GOLD, GOTTALOTTALUV, SENOR LIZARD, WAR LEGEND, KNIGHT OWL and ILITSHE (AUS) had to shift out marginally to avoid running onto a portion of the inside running rail which was laying on the course. After the running of Race 5, A Jockey Representative reported the above incident to the Stipendiary Board and raised concerns over the safety of jockeys and horses. Following this, the Course Manager was summoned to the Boardroom. The patrol film was reviewed in the presence of the Course Manager and Phumelela Race Day Representative and it was established that a section of the running rail that had been removed to accommodate the positioning of the starting stalls for Race 4 had not been refitted. The Stipendiary Board noted that this was not the first incident of this nature and recommended that Phumelela opens an Investigation into this matter. EARTH SKY was hanging in from the 300m. NIGHT OWL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. ILITSHE (AUS) raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind. Vet: ILITHSHE (AUS) - coughing.
