ORPHEUS was restless and fly-jumped leaving the stalls which resulted in Jockey van Rensburg leaving the stalls with his left foot out of the stirrup iron, which he regained shortly thereafter. Lost two lengths. FIORELLA rushed the front gates. EYES WIDE OPEN and MAGNIFICENT SEVEN were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. ORPHEUS was pulling hard shortly after the start, difficult to restrain and was forced to switch out, off the heels of runners, passing the 1600m. As a result, FIORELLA and FRESNAYE were carried outwards. Thereafter ORPHEUS raced wide around the field and to the front approaching the 1100m and compounded in the closing stages. The Board having heard from Jockey van Rensburg and having reviewed the patrol videos of the start, was satisfied that all horses were runners. Approaching the 900m FIORELLA appeared to falter and as a result became unbalanced and dislodged Jockey Yeni. Approaching the 150m DOUBLEMINT shifted out slightly from the crop, carrying SILVER GOD and EYES WIDE OPEN outwards slightly. In view of the performance of KAMPALA CAMPARI, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey Khumalo used his crop more than 12 times in the entire race. FRESNAYE raced without a tongue tie. SILVER GOD raced with ear muffs. Vet: KAMPALA CAMPARI - nothing obvious detected. FIORELLA - lame right fore. Jockey Yeni was examined after being dislodged and was found to have a tender neck, sustained left hand and left knee injury. Referred to hospital for X-Rays.
