BUFFELSFONTEIN jumped outwards leaving the stalls. JOHNNY HERO jumped awkwardly losing one length. ARMO and STORMY MOON were slow into stride. JOHNNY HERO who proved difficult proceeding to the start, dislodged Apprentice Schwarz and cantered to the start unmounted. This colt was taken in hand and subsequently led the remainder of the way to the start, examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. Trainer Zackey was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future, he may be suspended. JOHNNY HERO Apprentice Schwarz appeared before the Board in the presence of the Riding Master and was cautioned against disobeying an instruction from an Official. In assessing the sanction of a verbal reprimand, the Stewards considered that JOHNNY HERO had proved difficult proceeding to the start and that this was a first offence of this nature for Apprentice Schwarz. BUFFELSFONTEIN over-raced in the early and middle stages. Thereafter Jockey Penny reported that he felt something amiss with BUFFELSFONTEIN in running and eased this gelding out of the race at the 100m.
At approximately the 400m, BOUNCING TIGGER had to steady and switch out when awkwardly placed on the outside of FOLLOW MY PATH which rolled out marginally. At the 300m, SWEET CHARIOT had to steady momentarily to avoid running onto the heels of WE ALL CHOMIES which was carried in by BLUE FLUTE who in turn was carried in by SWAGGER JAGGER which shifted in sharply away from the crop. Jockey De Gouveia appeared before the Board and was questioned with regards to his riding of SWAGGER JAGGER at approximately the 300m. He explained to the Board that SWAGGER JAGGER had raced green and had shifted in sharply away from the crop. The Board advised Jockey De Gouveia to be more aware of the proximity of other runners and riders in races. At approximately the 150m when racing in close quarters, Jockey Simons', rider of YOUR PACE OR MINE crop was accidentally struck from his hand by Jockey Hewitson, rider of ON MY MIND. YOUR PACE OR MINE and ON MY MIND were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. JOHNNY HERO cast its left hind shoe in running. Vet: BUFFELSFONTEIN - not striding out left front. Scratched: SEMPER FI - lame right front.
