The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race as well as KISUMU being subject to a late Veterinary examination. VARQUERA fly-jumped leaving the stalls. ICON and ZEPHIRA RAIN jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THEA MARIA jumped inwards leaving the stalls. KISUMU was restless in the stalls. Trainer Habib was advised to re-school this filly prior to her next engagement. Shortly after the start, EVENING RISE was awkwardly placed between ICON which jumped out and THEA MARIA which jumped in. Shortly after the start, ELECTRIC was bumped out by ZEPHIRA RAIN which jumped out. At approximately the 300m, EMBLEM OF ROCK had to steady and shift in to avoid running onto the heels of THEA MARIA which shifted in sharply away from the crop and was immediately straightened. VARQUERA took a number of awkward strides in the concluding stages. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Trainer Wiid was advised to report back to the Board on the condition of this filly on return to stables. Apprentice Klink reported that he felt something amiss with EVANESCENCE in running and eased her out of the race at the 600m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. EVENING RISE and SWEPT OFF MY FEET were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. EVANESCENCE In view of the veterinary report, EVANESCENCE was indefinitely suspended. VARQUERA raced equipped with alumites in front and steels behind. Vet: VARQUERA examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. EVANESCENCE - fractured pelvis right hind. Recommended indefinite suspension pending a full veterinary report. Scratched: CHARLIE'S JET - off feed. CELESTE - refused to load on float.
