SPELLMAN raced green and was hanging out over the final 600 meters. Apprentice Gates the rider of SYX SHOOTER accidentally dropped his right-side rein near the 150-meter mark which he regained shortly thereafter. Jockey Hewitson the rider of SAIL SMARTLY reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding in the closing stages. In view of the performances of ENGAGE AND BEWARE (AUS) and SPELLMAN, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. SAIL SMARTLY was hanging out in the closing stages. Vet: ENGAGE AND BEWARE (AUS) - not striding out left fore. SAIL SMARTLY, MAMBA DUKE and SPELLMAN - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: HEROIC DEED - not striding out.
