MY BLUE SAFARI lost one length. SHINING BRIGHT was slow into stride. HARMONICA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Howells was questioned with regard to the improved performance of HARMONICA compared to this gelding's previous performance over 1600m. Mr Howells attributed the improvement shown to having reverted to the shorter distance of 1200m for today's race and having equipped this gelding with blinkers. Mr Howells has undertaken to race HARMONICA with blinkers and over sprint distances in his immediate future engagements. His explanation was noted and the future performances of HARMONICA will be monitored. ARISTACHUS was hanging in throughout. Jockey Hewitson, the rider of URBAN OASIS, and Jockey Yeni, the rider of BOUNCING TIGGER, reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in running. In view of the performance of SYX SHOOTER, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. MOVIE MAGIC was steadied off the heels of HARMONICA shortly before the finish. Jockey Zackey appeared before the Board with regard to his ride on MOVIE MAGIC in the closing stages and in particular, him being unable to ride his horse out to the finish. After viewing the patrol video, Mr Zackey explained that MOVIE MAGIC was finishing his race off well and in view of this, was improving onto the heels of HARMONICA, and hence he was unable to ride this gelding out in the closing stages. The Board was satisfied with the evidence and Mr Zackey's explanation and further reminded him of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the Race to the satisfaction of the Board. Jockey Zackey used his crop more than 12 times in this Race. The Board having considered the manner in which he used his crop fined him. Vet: URBAN OASIS - not striding out in front. BOUNCING TIGGER and SYX SHOOTER - nothing obvious detected.
